Summer Swim League
The Summer Swim League (SSL) is a flexible, recreational swim program designed to meet the needs of a large swimming population in the community. Focused primarily on beginner and young swimmers (ages 10 and under), the league offers a relaxed introduction to swim meets without the pressure of formal competition. SSL provides an essential bridge between swim lessons and competitive swim teams, allowing families with busy schedules and kids who may not be ready for intense competition to enjoy the sport at their own pace. By offering a supportive and fun environment, the SSL has grown significantly and meets the demands of a diverse range of swimmers, creating a valuable community resource. The league also helps to feed swimmers into more competitive programs once they are ready.
The Challenge
Navigating the Complexities of Day-Of Meet Adjustments and Volunteer Coordination
- Day-of Meet Changes & Swimmer No-shows: The Colorado Timing System used for SSL struggled with last-minute meet changes and no-shows. This caused delays and confusion, as there was no easy way to adjust meet schedules, creating frustration for both organizers and participants.
- Timing Challenges for Parents: Many parents, unfamiliar with competitive swimming, found using the timing system difficult and intimidating. This increased the learning curve and resulted in inconsistent timings and meet disruptions.
- System Inflexibility: The system lacked the flexibility needed for SSL’s recreational and beginner-friendly environment. Adjusting events or managing spontaneous needs was difficult, lengthening the meets unnecessarily.
