Swimmingly Sanctioned Swim Meets & Briefing
Swimmingly is approved for use for sanctioned USA Swimming meets as a semi-automatic timing system.
Instructions & Information for Meet Admins
- The camera is inaccessible in-app to timers. Because of the synchronized start, the timers device should be attached to the lanyard, around the neck, so the device is hands-free during the start of each race. Timers only need to interact with the device at the stop/finish of the race.
- The Scorekeeper can visually see on the iPad in real-time the name of all the devices connected and the name of all the devices currently/previously on the given session on the Swimmingly app.
- There are many procedural ways to identify timers so phones can be prevented from being used as cameras:
- Read the briefing below to timers and require that they follow all instructions.
-
- Timers are clearly identified as timers behind the block by the Swimmingly lanyard that is attached to their device. Lanyards makes the timers easily identifiable at all times. Lanyards should be worn around the neck for easy identification.
-
- Stickers or cover can be provided to cover the camera on the back of the phone. Procedurally, this adds another visual aid.
-
- Because it's a synchronized start, timers are asked/required to leave their devices out of their hands at the start of the race. Timers only need to interact with the device at the stop/finish of the race.
Timer’s Briefing:
Please read the following directive to all TIMERS prior to them performing their duties:
Welcome to this [swim meet session]. We believe that swimming is more than a sport, it’s our community. We want to acknowledge each of you today serving our community. You will be performing your duties as a timer using the Swimmingly® app. To comply with Safe Sport, please perform your duties using the Swimmingly app in the following manner:
- The camera on your phone is inaccessible in-app as you use Swimmingly. As you perform your duties, you are not to exit or quit the Swimmingly app or in anyway engage with your device that is not in accordance with your timer duties.
- Because of the synchronized start, the stop/finish of the race is the only time you have to interact with your device.
- Procedurally, please use the provided lanyard and hang your device from you neck when it is not in use.
- During the start of each race, the Swimmingly app provides a hands-fee, synchronized start. Therefore, please keep your timer device in the lanyard, around your neck, hands-free, during the start.
- If you must be excused from you position, please raise your hand and an official will come to assist your request.
- Your neck lanyard clearly identifies you as a timer, please wear it around your neck while performing your duties.
